Once a poor cowboy-town closet-case, then a token gay Catholic school frat boy, now a Chicago-based smartass, my writing explores the social pecking order, struggles with purpose, and life’s many disillusions. The protagonists I create are egocentric and insecure, moved to act by a dissonance they feel between who they are, how they’re perceived, and what they think they deserve from the world. Inspired by campy situational irony found in projects such as The Favourite and Chewing Gum, I write biting character comedies—often with horror or romantic elements.
